Back in the 80's is Chins newest track, that for the most is about making fun of the notable decade, bringing up mullets, shoulder pads and all kinds of funny things that people alive at the time will likely remember. But the song, aside from mainly being a bit of fun, like many other songs out there, addresses some issues from the time that shouldn't be forgotten, particularly revolving around LGBTQI+ rights and experiences. These include the AIDs pandemic that struck the world, and no right for same-sex marriage, both of which are still an issue today.
lyrics
Back in the 80s, we were all kinda crazy
Got my head on the ground and my feet in the air
Back in the 80s, the world was kinda crazy
With mullets of flowing hair, God I should have been there
Back in the 80s it was kinda crazy, the colours on your clothes, I should have seen those
But back in the 80s, the highlight was the music
I forgot how it goes, but I might just be able to do it
1, 2, 3, 4!
We don't need to remember any more
Just remorse as the years go by
Don't need to worry about the law
Just like the time we all gotta lie
We don't need to remember any more
Back in the 80s, all our rights were kinda crazy.
No one could marry, and it seemed kinda lazy
Back in the 80s, you looked kinda crazy
With your big wide perms and stupid shoulder pads
Back in the 80s, health was kinda crazy
AIDS were going around, God forbid who got those
But back in the 80s, the music was kinda crazy,
Just wait I think I know the tune, it went a little like this:
1, 2, 3, 4!
We don't need to remember any more
Just remorse as the years go by
Don't need to worry about the law
Just like the time we all gotta lie
We don't need to remember any more
Just remorse as the years go by
Don't need to worry about the law
Just like the time we all gotta lie

Chins are a Canberra-based 5-piece Indie Rock band. Think “The Cure” meets “Surf Curse” with a twist of
punk!
Chins burst onto the venue circuit in 2020 & haven’t looked back! If they aren’t on the stage, they are behind the stage, on the sound desk or in the studio.
With their positive attitude, multi-instrumental ability, contagious stage presence and ‘all-in’ approach, Chins are here to stay!...more
Love TJJT so had to find an album with them on it - not just because their music is awesome, but they also support Minus 18 Youth (aka us). Plus this album has heaps of other great Canberra artists! Chins

Tightly wound post-punk with splashes of new wave; heavy on twangy riffs, phased-out melodies, and understated vocals. Bandcamp New & Notable Aug 2, 2023
"Flower Of Life" yanks riot grrrl south through the unmistakable garage psych sound indispensable to the last 20-odd years of rock music out of Los Angeles. Bandcamp Album of the Day Mar 2, 2023
